National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, will this week meet with leaders of the party in Edo State to address disenchantment among leaders over alleged abandonment by Governor Godwin Obaseki since his election as governor.
The essence of the meeting, it was gathered, was to find solutions to the problems.
It was learned that the meeting is coming on the heel of threats by majority of the leadership of the party across the three senatorial districts to defect to other parties.
Some leaders of the party had stormed Oshiomhole’s residence when he visited Benin City, weekend, to inform him of how the APC administration in the state had abandoned and humiliated them, and also threatened to leave the party if the state governor continues his policy of alleged exclusion.
A top party leader confirmed the meeting, yesterday, adding that it will take place on Thursday, saying: “This meeting will shape the future of APC in Edo State because everybody is tired and angry. Most people had remained in the party because of Oshiomhole who is our leader.
“He brought Obaseki to us to support him and now all he built is being destroyed by the government he put in place. So we are hoping he will solve the problem so that APC will win this state in the next elections and even in the governorship election in 2020,” the source said.
It will be recalled that a chieftain of the party in the state, Charles Idahosa, recently resigned from APC over what he described as the attitude of the governor towards party leaders in the state but rescinded his decision after Oshiomhole’s intervention.
