Controversial social critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, on Friday, said N180m was stolen from his NGO’s account after its website was hacked.
Recall that Otse launched the NGO named Martins Vincent Osei Initiative in October to focus on community development and improving the quality of public education in Nigeria.
The activist received over N35m in donations within hours of launching the initiative. Shortly after, he announced receiving a N100m contribution from renowned music producer and Mavin Records boss, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy.
However, in a video shared on Instagram on Friday, the activist revealed that the funds and other donations have been diverted into an unknown account.
“Honestly, I’ve not been myself for the past few days,” Otse said. “Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested.
“The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s N20 million left, while N160 million was diverted to another account. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money.”
Although he did not provide an explanation on how the NGO’s account was linked to its website, Otse said he had to shut down the NGO’s app for maintenance to prevent further breaches and promised to provide updates on the situation.
The activist could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing this report.
