Ondo Government Warns Late Ex-Gov Akeredolu’s Aides To Return State Property Or Face Legal Action

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Kayode Ajulo, issued the directive on Friday in a statement released in Akure, expressing concern over the high number of state assets in private hands one year after Akeredolu’s death.

The Ondo State government has warned associates of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to return the unlawfully acquired state property or face the full wrath of the law.

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Kayode Ajulo, issued the directive on Friday in a statement released in Akure, expressing concern over the high number of state assets in private hands one year after Akeredolu’s death.

The statement read, “One year after the untimely passing of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, a significant portion of the state’s assets had been unlawfully transferred into private hands. This is unacceptable.”

Ajulo added, “During a candid review of the past year under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as attorney general, I must say, this is wrong; we cannot continue on this path. Our law enforcement and regulatory agencies must be fully accountable.”

He expressed concerns about deliberate attempts to withhold crucial information from Governor Aiyedatiwa and attempts to stifle investigations with blackmail, stating, “Only the guilty should fear.”

Ajulo alleged that some vested interests were launching media attacks on the governor and his administration, accusing them of tarnishing Akeredolu’s memory, but said, “Some of these individuals have resorted to media attacks, yet they fail to explain why they continuously react without provocation.”

He stressed, “Arakunrin Akeredolu I knew would never have allowed state funds to be exploited like this.”

The Attorney General called for a comprehensive audit of state assets, urging those involved in the alleged misappropriation to return the property or face legal consequences.

He emphasised the importance of restoring accountability and ensuring public resources are used for the benefit of all Ondo citizens.
