Global human rights body, the Amnesty International, has condemned the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for gagging dissenting voices.

The AI said this in a post on its official X handle @AmnestyNigeria in response to the attack on SERAP office (Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Projects) by the Department of State Services.

“Amnesty International received disturbing report of the unlawful invasion of the Abuja office of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) by operatives of DSS. President Bola Tinubu is going too far in his government’s repressive efforts to gag dissenting voices.” The post on X read.

The organisation noted that the act of the DSS against SERAP is bizarre given that it (SERAP) stands against corruption.

“SERAP stands for accountability against corruption. It is bizarre that the DSS — which should focus on protecting Nigeria — are shockingly acting without respect for the rule of law, by consistently targeting civil society organizations and activists.” Amnesty International stated.

There has been a clamp down by the government against notable organizations like the Nigerian Labour Congress, Journalists and anyone perceived to be against a policy or the other of the government.
