Sanwo-Olu promises to promote traditional religion in Lagos

The governor spoke while delivering his address at the 2022 annual conference of the Association of African Traditional Religions of Nigeria held in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Olufemi Martins, noted the contribution of indigenous religion to a peaceful society.

He said, “I commend the sterling contributions of AATREN in the propagation of indigenous religion towards a just and peaceful society and the state government will continue to support all efforts aimed at promoting and preserving the culture of Lagos.

“The association is committed to the sustenance of the rich cultural heritage of Africans, and through the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, we will render all necessary support in your efforts to promote traditional religion in Lagos State.”

In his remarks, the President of AATREN, Ifasegun Elegushi said, “Let us rededicate ourselves to deepening our age-long traditional religions, indigenous languages, traditional etiquette, and the ways of living together with others in harmony. We must not lose these to civilisation.”
