Osimhen, Onuachu, Ndidi top Rohr squad’s list

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has included in-form strikers Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, Kelechi Iheanacho and captain Ahmed Musa in his squad for the a World Cup qualifier double header against Central Africa Republic next month.

Nigeria host Central Africa Republic in Lagos on October 6 with the reverse fixture four days later in Douala, Cameroon.

Africa’s football governing body, CAF has not approved any stadia facility in Central African Republic as being good enough to host an international match – this has forced The Wild Beasts to adopt other nations as ‘home ground’.

They played Cape Verde in Douala on Day 1 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 series, which ended 1-1.

A team official who spoke with our correspondent on the condidition anonymity said the Franco-German Rohr has stuck with his regular players like William Troost-Ekong, Oghenekaro Etebo, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Maduka Okoye, Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu and Kenneth Omeruo for the games.

The duo Kevin Akpoguma and Frank Onyeka who missed the games against Liberia and Cape Verde after contracting COVID-19 prior to the games are also expected to return.

“It is an unchanged squad for the games against Central Africa Republic,” the source told PUNCH Sports Extra on Thursday.

“Except there are late injuries to the players invited for the next month’s games, the squad list from last qualifiers remains unchanged.”

Our correspondent also gathered that the team’s camp will be opened on October 4 in Lagos.

Officials and players of the Eagles will lodge at the Eko Hotels and Suites for the home fixture against Central Africa Republic.

The Eagles who have featured in six of the last seven World Cup finals lead Group C with six points after their wins over Liberia and Cape Verde.
