Ogun Insists No Extension Of Tax Returns Deadline, Imposes N500,000 Penalty

It, however, urged tax agents in the state to file their 2023 Annual Tax Returns before the deadline to avoid a penalty.

The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has warned that there will be no extension of the due date for the filing of tax returns.

It, however, urged tax agents in the state to file their 2023 Annual Tax Returns before the deadline to avoid a penalty.

The Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr Olugbenga Olaleye who gave the warning in a statement on Wednesday, stated that tax agents were expected to statutorily file their 2023 employees’ tax returns on or before January 31, 2024

According to the statement, failure to file the tax returns within the time frame would attract a penalty of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) only.

Olaleye, however, advised them to carry out their civic responsibilities as expected to enable the government to deliver on its electoral promises.

State governments across the country have been pushing to expand their tax net as federal allocations have continued to dwindle amid demand for wage increments, and rising inflation as a result of fuel subsidy removal among other economic challenges.
