NIGCOMSAT partners IT firm to upgrade facilities

The Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited has taken another step towards enhancing its services by upgrading its technology to cutting-edge standards.

This development comes as the company signs a partnership agreement with Dimension Data, a leading IT solutions provider.

According to a press release shared with our correspondent on Monday, the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT Limited Mrs Jane Egerton-Idehen, said the upgrade will enable the company to provide excellent services to its clients.

“We have upgraded our facility to cutting-edge technology, and we are confident that we can compete favourably in the global satellite market,” she said.

The partnership agreement, signed in Lagos on Friday, will see NIGCOMSAT provide internet services to Dimension Data on its NigComSat-1R network platform for an initial period of one year.

The agreement is part of the company’s efforts to reposition itself as a major player in the satellite industry.

Egerton-Idehen expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that NIGCOMSAT had completed a successful pilot scheme with Dimension Data and had signed a Master Service Agreement.

“We are glad that Dimension Data is happy with the results of our pilot, and we are committed to ensuring that our service delivery is excellent, our infrastructure reliable, and our technology continuous,” she said.

The Country Director of Dimension Data, Mr Olugbenga Olabiyi, also commented on the partnership, stating that his company was focused on creating unique and bespoke IT solutions for its customers.

“We are committed to delivering services that are value-driven, and we believe that our partnership with NIGCOMSAT will help us achieve this goal,” he said.

The upgrade and partnership are part of the Nigerian government’s efforts to promote digital transformation and inclusion in the country’s economy. The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has been spearheading initiatives to expand connectivity and promote digital inclusion.

With its upgraded technology and partnership with Dimension Data, NIGCOMSAT is poised to play a significant role in achieving the government’s digital economy objectives.

Egerton-Idehen noted, “We are not late to the market, and we are committed to taking our rightful position in the global satellite industry.”
