Member of robbery gang dies as getaway car rams into truck in Rivers

A member of a five-man robbery gang died on Tuesday while four of his colleagues were also injured as their getaway car rammed into a stationary truck as they were being chased by the police at Ada George road/Rumukokwu in Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Mile 3 Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State after robbing a warehopuse

However, two members managed to scramble out of the vehicle and escape while two others were critically injured.

According to one one Uche Woke, an eyewitness, the five gunmen had raided a warehouse that deals in wholesale sealed engine oil along Ada George/Chinda axis on Wednesday morning.

Mr Woke explained that as the armed robbers who came with two vehicles were leaving after successfully loading the engine oils and other valuables into their car, the private security guard attached to the warehouse raised alarm, which attracted passers-by and the Police.

The source disclosed that as the armed robbers were hastily driving off on sighting the Police patrol van that was giving them a hot chase, they tried to use alternative routes by passing a road that is linked to Rumukokwu from Ada George road when they rammed into the packed trailer.

Viral videos of the incident show one dead member who was the driver of the gang in the front seat of the vehicle, while two members who were critically injured were on the floor.

Other eyewitnesses said two of the gang members, however, escaped.

The Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the incident.

According to her, Police were giving the robbers a hot chase when they collided with a stationary Trailer.

SP Koko disclosed that the suspects were rushed to a hospital where one of them was confirmed dead and two who were critically injured are receiving treatment.
