Lagos Deputy Gov Candidate, Princess Oyefusi Resigns From Labour Party, Says She Can’t Align With Current Party Values

Oyefusi in a resignation letter to the chairman of her ward, titled ‘Re: Resignation Of Membership From Labour Party,’ said she can no longer see herself aligning with the values of the party.

As the crisis in the Labour Party continues to widen, the deputy governorship candidate of the party in the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, Princess Islamiyat Abiodun Oyefusi has tendered her resignation from the party.

Oyefusi in a resignation letter to the chairman of her ward, titled ‘Re: Resignation Of Membership From Labour Party,’ said she can no longer see herself aligning with the values of the party.

According to her, it was time to move forward.

Commending the governorship candidate of the party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour in the 2023 poll for offering her the chance to be his deputy, she described the last 10 months of her political career as interesting.

The resignation letter obtained by Tribune Online, partly read: “This letter is to hereby officially notify you of my resignation from the Labour Party.

“It has been a very interesting Ten (10) months of my political career, I give thanks and glory to Almighty God for seeing me through in good health and with His mercy.

“My thanks to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour for the political window as your deputy.

“At this juncture, I can no longer see myself aligning with the current values of the Labour Party or as a member of the Labour Party, and the time has come for me to move forward.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my team and supporters across the length and breadth of Lagos State and Nigeria in general, who worked tremendously hard with me, despite the difficult terrain, on our achievements during the 2023 electioneering period, an achievement, we can all be highly proud of, and for the immense support of the ObiDatti family and NCF, It was indeed an honour and a privilege to take that journey with you all.”

She added, “I look forward to working with you all in the future towards achieving our dreams of freeing Lagos from one-party politics, creating a Lagos that works for everyone, and a better/new Nigeria.

“Thank you all and God bless you all.”
