‘I’m Now Homeless’ — Ex-Deputy Gov Cries Out After Ibadan Explosion

A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Iyiola Oladokun, has said the explosion that rocked Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State on Tuesday, rendered him homeless and forced himself and his family to move in with a friend.

The explosion, which occured in Bodija, affected over 20 houses and led to the death of two people while 77 residents sustained various degrees of injuries.

The ex-deputy governor told newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday that a friend housed him and his wife after the explosion on Tuesday night.

“I am one of the residents of Dejo Oyelese Close. My house was affected.We were just watching the football match when the explosion occurred. All the doors that were closed were forced open.

“It was very devastating. All the doors, burglaries, windows and even the roof are gone. We give glory to God that me and my wife were not hurt.

“I am just coming back now because we can’t sleep here again. We couldn’t sleep here yesterday. We had to move out yesterday.”

Meanwhile, the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has expressed shock over the incident, calling on the government to prevent a re-occurence.

A leader of the group, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, in a statement late Wednesday, condoled with the families of the victims, government of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.

He charged security agencies to get to the root of the incident.

Similarly, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State condoled with his Oyo counterpart and the victims of the explosion.
