The head of Sub-Sahara delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ignacio San Roman said the organisation has given Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) returnees in Michika local government area of Adamawa, numbering over 1000, N40,000 each to start business.
Roman, made this known yesterday in Yola in an interview with Newsmen.
He said that the development was to create business opportunity and assist the returnee IDPs improve their livelihood.
“ As part of the committee’s humanitarian intervention in Adamawa, about 1,000 returnees Internally Displaced Persons assisted with unconditional cash grant.
“ Each beneficiary received N40, 000 naira free cash to restart or expand a small business of his choice,” San Roman said.
He said among the beneficiaries include Petty traders, restaurant and small eatery,tailoring, among others.
Similarly, he confirmed that no fewer than 13,312 IDPs returnee family assisted In 2016 with agricultural inputs from Maiha,Michika,Yola South and Yola North LGAs.
According to San Roman, in 2015 a total of 3,502 returnee families were also supported with farming inputs .
He said that among the inputs distributed include improve variety maize seedlings and fertilizer.
