FCTA gives Tinubu new date for inauguration of Abuja metro rail

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a new date for the inauguration of commercial operations of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit system.

The President will now set off the commercial operations of the rail service on May 29, instead of May 27 earlier announced.

Mr Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press, Office of the FCT Minister, announced the change in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

Ogunleye said the inauguration, would be performed by President Bola Tinubu by 1:00 p.m., as part of activities to celebrate his one year in office.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike had earlier announced that President Bola Tinubu will from May 27 to June 6 inaugurates various projects completed under his administration in Abuja.

Wike, who spoke while inspecting some of the projects in preparation for the inauguration listed the Abuja Metro Line as one of the key infrastructure projects.

“By the approval of Mr President, we believe that from May 27, we shall begin the inauguration of various projects and will end on June 6.

“Particularly on May 27, President Tinubu will inaugurate commercial operations of the Abuja Light Rail, also known as Abuja Metro Line, and we will carry out the final inspection of the project on May 20.

“From what we have seen, I think we are good to go,” he said.

He added that the Vice-President’s residence, located along Aso Drive, would be completed and possibly inaugurated on June 6.

According to him, the nine-day inauguration of the FCT projects would showcase the President Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to renewing the hope of Nigerians.

He added that other projects, such as the construction of bus terminals, the FCT Court of Appeal Division, and additional undertakings, would be inaugurated within this period.
