Explosion rocks Lagos

A massive explosion has rocked Iju Ishaga area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. The explosion occurred on Tuesday night sending panic among residents.

Balls of fire enveloped the atmosphere with loud ‘bang’ heard several metres away from the scene of the incident, which is Agbado Road, Toyin Bus Stop, Iju Ishaga.

Emergency responders said the explosion emanated from gas tanker which accidentally caught fire.

The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the Service is currently attending a fire explosion at Agbado Road, Toyin B/S, Iju Ishaga.

“The Fire which was reported at 22:04hrs on Tuesday was as a result of a gas tanker that accidentally caught fire and accompanied with explosion.

“The fire has been confined to the tanker and adjoining row of shops it spread to as concerted efforts are ongoing to forestall further spread to protect the environment and property, including the nearby Kerosene Petroleum Filling Station.

“The agency is assuring the public of their safety and admonishing them to be as distance as possible from the scene while naked flames should be avoided for now within the vicinity. Update to follow as situation unfolds,” Adeseye tweeted on X.
