#EndBadGovernance: Detained minors should be compensated – Ndume

The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, on Tuesday expressed his opinion on minors who were arrested over their alleged participation in August’s #EndBadGovernance protests.

While speaking on Politics today, Channels Television, Ndume stated that arrested minors should be compensated and not rehabilitated.

Ndube made this statement in lieu of the presidential order released on November 4, 2024 stating that all arrested minors should be released and rehabilitated.

“These minors are not supposed to have been arrested. And it is not an issue of rehabilitation now. It is an issue of compensation, because they have been wronged.

“Their rights have been breached. I think the government needs to apologise to them and then pay them some compensation so that they will start their lives.

“That is the best, not to take them somewhere to say that you want to rehabilitate them,” he stated.

The senator added that Tinubu, who fought for democracy should not promote any kind of government that is unacceptable to Nigerians.

Also speaking on the grounds by which the minors were arrested, Ndume expressed that the status of the accused as minors should be considered.

“I’m not saying that they are all right, but these are minors,” he concluded.
