Taking to his Instagram Story, the Grammy-winning artist addressed critics who mocked the initiative and claimed he was allegedly rejected by the President of Burkina Faso.
“I said I wanted to do a free show in Burkina Faso. While there was a lot of positive feedback, I was shocked by the surprisingly negative and offensive comments from some individuals,” Burna Boy wrote.
He went on to defend his intentions and criticize those questioning his motives.
“I’m sorry, but some of you are not in a position to even mention my name. If your only contribution to the world is leaving thoughtless comments online or speaking into your ring light, you have no authority to tell me what I should or shouldn’t do for any part of Africa. Especially when no one in your lineage has ever made a meaningful contribution to the continent—or to the world at large.”
Burna Boy emphasized that his actions are guided by principle, not personal gain.
“I have nothing to gain from anybody. I don’t owe anyone anything, but that never stopped me from doing the great work I do. My integrity is unquestionable. Therefore burn in hell if you said anything negative,” Burna Boy concluded.
