Abiodun draws battle line: Ogun won’t cede Ode-Omi, Makun to Lagos, Ondo

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has firmly pledged that no part of Ogun State will be ceded to Lagos or Ondo amidst disputes over the ownership of Ode-Omi and Makun.

Both Lagos and Ogun have been asserting claims over Ode-Omi, located on the outskirts of Lekki, but Ogun maintains that the land belongs within the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

Abiodun gave his assurance to the people of Ogun Waterside during a meeting at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, with representatives from the local government, including traditional rulers, technocrats, and prominent state officials.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding Ogun’s territorial boundaries.

Speaking on the meeting’s discussions, former Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Segun Awonusi, noted that the governor was aware of reported incursions from neighbouring states and had initiated measures to address them.

“We have come here to discuss the affairs of the local government with the governor. We appreciate him for what he has done so far, and we urge him to do more,” said Awonusi.

Awonusi continued, “Because of reports of incursions from Lagos and Ondo states on Ode-Omi and Makun to seize parts of our land, the governor has promised that he will ensure that not an inch of Ogun State is lost to any other state. He has also promised to provide adequate security so that our people can live in peace.”

Former Commissioner for Environment, Abdul Balogun, also expressed his gratitude for the governor’s commitment, disclosing that Abiodun assured immediate rehabilitation of the Dau-Ibiade-Abigi-Efire-Makun-Ilisin road. He added that the governor was determined to restore electricity to areas in the local government that had been without power for the past three years.

“The governor has also committed himself to building a naval base in the area. The groundbreaking ceremony of the project would have been done, but due to the rainy season, he has assured that this will be done immediately after the rain subsides,” Balogun said.

Balogun further noted that the Deep Sea Port at Olokola was “very dear to the governor’s heart,” and that Abiodun had assured the people he would continue working on the project.

Regarding the federal government’s Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Balogun revealed that Abiodun had promised to reach out to the Works Minister to advocate for an extension connecting the Ogun Waterside to the Sagamu Expressway, ensuring the local government and Ogun State benefit from the expansive infrastructure.

Balogun reiterated the community’s support for the governor’s efforts, pledging continued cooperation with the Abiodun-led administration in driving further development for Ogun.
