The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal filed by Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, a former Minister of State for Education, seeking to disqualify Sen. Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidates of their respective political parties.

The Supreme Court dismissed the case on Thursday because it was statute-barred, with no life to support it and no legs to stand on.

Justice Inyang Okoro, who presided over a five-member panel of Justices of the Court, dismissed the appeal after the former Minister withdrew his case after learning that it had been filed after the deadline.

Nwajiuba and a non-governmental organisation, Rights for All International, had petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the processes that produced Tinubu and Abubakar as candidates for their respective political parties.

He had lost at the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal in Abuja, both on the same grounds that his case lacked merit to warrant the court’s attention.
