Wole Soyinka in Brazil for Africa Week

The Nobel Laureate (Literature), Professor Wole Soyinka, is presently in Brazil, participating in the Back to Black Festival which started on 25 May 2023.

The event’s “Portrait of Africa” panel is moderated by Carolina Morais, Professor Soyinka and Bahian.

Musician Mateus Aleluia spoke eloquently about many aspects of African culture and its impacts on a global scale.

When the iconic playwright visited Little Africa, a region which was a destination of the largest number of enslaved people in the Americas, he celebrated the resilient spirit of the African diaspora and highlighted the importance of the shared history between Brazil and Africa.

On June 1st and 2nd, the Nobel Laureate will be on stage at Sesc Vila Mariana in São Paulo to deliver his lectures.

Shortly afterwards, he will conduct a seminar with students and faculty at Zumbi dos Palmers University on the intricate connections between Brazil and Africa.

According to information from organisers of the event, The African Pride which is behind the event seeks to encourage a mutual exchange of ideas on how Africa will develop its full potential.

Professor Wole Soyinka will be heading to Morocco from Brazil for another event.
