The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects over the alleged purchase of a luxury vehicle using a fake bank transfer alert.
The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued by Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson, on Friday.
“Operatives of its Special Intervention Squad apprehended Ibrahim Tijjani, Jamilu Auwal and Mohammed Nura Dauda on January 28 at Kabuga Quarters in Kano after receiving credible information,” the statement reads.
“The suspects allegedly acquired a white Mercedes-Benz GLE in Gwarinpa, Abuja, for ₦75 million with a fraudulent transfer notification.
“The fake alert was reportedly generated and sent by one Ibrahim Yahaya, who is currently at large.”
Ibrahim Bakori, commissioner of police in Kano state, said the operation aligned with the directive of Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, on intelligence-driven policing and sustained visibility patrols.
“This arrest underscores the Command’s resolve to clamp down on financial crimes and other criminal activities through proactive and intelligence-led policing,” Bakori said.
He commended officers of the Special Intervention Squad for their “professionalism, dedication, and swift response” during the operation.
Bakori said the recovered Mercedes-Benz vehicle has been transferred to the Federal Capital Territory police command to aid further investigation.
The police commissioner urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies in combating crime across the state.
“We encourage residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through our emergency lines,” he said.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in Kano while assuring the public that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and prosecute all those involved.
