Taraba shuts down airport

The Taraba State Government has shut down the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo to expedite the upgrade work going on in the facility.

The state government announced this on Friday through by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transportation Development, Kwantar Genesis.

The statement highlighted the parts of the facility to be upgraded. It said, “These include building drainage systems, constructing a perimeter fence, upgrading the Instrument Landing System, extending the runway from 2.4 kilometres to 3 kilometres, and acquiring two new fire tenders.”

The statement added, “This airport upgrade underscores the Taraba State Government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure. The enhanced facilities will not only benefit commuters within Taraba State but also strengthen connections to neighbouring states

“We understand the inconvenience this temporary closure may cause, but we appeal to commuters to exercise patience.

“These efforts are ultimately for their benefit, as the upgraded airport will offer a safer and more efficient travel experience.”
