Ogunbote Urges Shooting Stars To Build On First Away Win Against Sunshine Stars

Shooting Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote has urged the players to build on their 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The Oluyole Warriors earned their first away victory of the season at the Remo Stadium courtesy of Otakho Aghahowa’s goal in the 28th minute.

Ogunbote has come under criticism following the 2-0 loss to Remo Stars in November, and they had failed to win their previous South West derby against Ikorodu City.

The veteran coach described the victory as a relief while praising the players for their hard work in the encounter.

He said: “This victory is a big relief, having toiled for so many games. This is the third derby we have played, it would have been suicidal if we could not take a point out of the three derbies.

“I’m really happy that finally, it happened, we worked for it and deservedly we were able to get it,” said the oracle who praised his boys for fighting hard to get the desired result.

“The players gave it their all, they fought to keep the goal and to ensure the victory was achieved, so it was a good one for us”.

He said: “That’s another game, this game has come and gone, it won’t come again until the second round, so we shift focus to the next game.

“All we need to do next is to do our best and make sure we pick our maximum points at home. Maximum points at home will keep us a little bit comfortable”.

Shooting Stars currently occupy the fifth place position with 24 points from 16 games, winning seven matches, drawing three, and losing six matches.

They have also now won back-to-back games for the first time this season, after beating Abia Warriors 2-0 in the penultimate weekend.

The Oluyole Warriors will welcome Kano Pillars to Ibadan on Sunday in a bid to continue their upsurge on the Nigeria Professional Football League table.

Sunshine Stars have now failed to win their last three matches in the league, they are back in action against Enyimba on Wednesday.
