No Endorsement For Rivers Polls Yet, Only Tinubu Has Our Backing – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike has firmly denied endorsing any candidate for forthcoming political contests in Rivers State, declaring that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the group’s official backing ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike made this known while addressing a joint meeting of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, warning against the growing rush for premature endorsements.

He stressed that decisions on candidates for state-level elections in Rivers would be taken collectively by party elders, not individuals acting unilaterally.

According to him, the strength of the political bloc lies in its unity, cautioning that external forces are already plotting to sow discord among members.

“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they must find anything to make sure we are divided,” Wike said.

The minister expressed concern over what he described as betrayal by some beneficiaries of the group’s political goodwill, noting that individuals who secured appointments through the collective platform have turned around to criticise its leadership.

“Woe be unto the person that we have given appointment who goes back to castigate,” he warned, adding that such conduct reflects a lack of character and integrity.

Reaffirming his stance, Wike insisted there is no difference between his private and public positions, dismissing speculations of secret endorsements. “Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime,” he said.

He maintained that no endorsement has been made for any aspirant under either the APC or PDP in Rivers State, reiterating that such decisions would only emerge after consultations with elders.

The FCT minister, however, made it clear that the group has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the backing as the only official political position taken so far.

Wike concluded by commending council chairmen, Rivers elders, and party leaders for fostering cooperation and inclusiveness, noting that the absence of complaints from stakeholders underscored the success of the meeting.
