The Nigerian Bar Association has called on the police to speedily bring to justice the officer that killed a female lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem, on Sunday.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Raheem was shot dead in her car around Ajah Under-bridge.

Ajah is a popular area in Lagos, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The police officer who shot the lawyer on Sunday, Christmas Day, is reportedly attached to Ajiwe Police Station.

SaharaReporters learnt that after killing Omobolanle Raheem, the trigger-happy policeman fled the scene with his colleagues before another set of policemen later came and took her remains to a mortuary in the Yaba area of the state and vanished.

But the Vice President of NBA Lagos Branch, Abiye Tam-George, who spoke to SaharaReporters on Monday morning shortly after she led officials of NBA on a visit to the Divisional Police Officer of Ajiwe Police Station, where the trigger-happy police officer was attached, described the case as straightforward.

Abiye, who has also visited the spouse of the deceased lawyer, quoted the DPO of the division to have said that it was “wrongful use of a firearm”.

“It is very clear. We want the matter to be addressed speedily. The fact is that police have also confirmed the full discharge of firearm. Our demand is to ensure that this matter is taken to court as soon as possible.

“They have arrested the culprit. He is in police custody. The DPO said the action of the suspected police officer was “a wrongful use of a firearm,” she said.

The National Publicity Secretary, NBA, Akorede Lawal, while reacting to the unfortunate incident, said that the president of the association, Yakubu Maikyau, was monitoring the situation.

He tweeted, “We are aware of this unfortunate incident. This is yet another crime against a lawyer. Regrettably, our member is gone. The NBA President @YCMaikyauSAN is right on this and we shall ensure that justice is duly served.”
