NEMA Receives 156 Stranded Nigerians From Libya


The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Territorial Office, has facilitated the return of 156 stranded Nigerians from Libya in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other key stakeholders.

The returnees, comprising 77 adult males, 67 adult females, seven children, and five infants, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 19:15 hours on Tuesday.

They traveled aboard a chartered Al-Buraq Airline flight, with registration number 5A-BAA.

Announcing the operation via its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Wednesday, NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe, humane, and dignified return of Nigerian citizens stranded abroad.

The agency said upon their arrival, the returnees underwent biometric profiling by the Nigerian Immigration Service to verify their identities.

The post read, “NEMA Lagos Territorial Office LTO, in collaboration with IOM and other stakeholders, has continued to facilitate the safe, humane, and dignified return of Nigerian citizens from Libya.

“The returnees arrived at approximately 19:15 hours on a charter flight operated by Al-Buraq Airline, registration number 5A-BAA, with 156 individuals on board. The group consisted of 77 adult males, 67 adult females, 7 children, and 5 infants.

“The other returnees underwent biometric profiling conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service, while additional humanitarian assistance was provided by various government agencies to ensure their well-being.”

Representatives from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), IOM, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Nigerian Police Force, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were present to ensure a smooth process.
