Nationwide blackout as National Grid crashes yet again

Nigeria has been plunged into complete darkness following yet another collapse of the national grid, further aggravating the country’s electricity supply challenges.

The Nigeria National Grid confirmed the collapse on its X handle at exactly 2:45 pm on Tuesday, tweeting, “National Grid suffers another setback, restoration soon.”

This latest failure has cut power generation from all major power plants, including Afam IV & V, Afam VI, Azura-EDO, Dadinkowa, Delta, Egbin, Geregu, Geregu-NIPP, Ibom-Power, Jebba, Kainji, Odukpani, Okpai, Olorunsogo, Olorunsogo-NIPP, Omoku, Omotosho, Paras, Rivers IPP, and Shiroro, to zero.

In the past month, the grid has experienced multiple collapses, leaving some northern states without electricity for as long as 10 days.

The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) recently announced plans for a stakeholders’ meeting to address these persistent outages, but a concrete solution remains elusive.

Despite being Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria struggles to generate even 5,000 MW of electricity, leaving millions of citizens in prolonged darkness.
