National Assembly staff, management agree on salary increase, arrears

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has signed a memorandum of understanding with national assembly management on the increase of salaries and allowances.

The workers have been demanding the full implementation of the new national minimum wage.

The failure of the implementation of the new wage has led to an accumulation of salaries and allowances owed to them.

Some of the workers were seen holding placards at the main lobby of the assembly on Tuesday, calling on the lawmakers to intervene in the situation.

In the MoU dated April 13, it was agreed that implementation of the new minimum wage will be done by May, and the arrears shall be paid on or before the end of the fourth quarter of 2021.

“CONPECULIAR Allowance shall commence in October 2021 and the arrears shall also be paid before the end of the year, 2021,” the MoU reads.

“Leave Allowance at 10% of Annual Consolidated Salary shall be paid as follows: Gl 1 -13, April 19-23, 2021; GL14 – May, 2021; GL15 and 16, June, 2021; GL 17 and above, 4th quarter 2021.

“Rent Subsidy at 40% Annual Consolidated Salary to be paid by the 4th Quarter of 2021. End of Year Bonus shall be paid as usual at the end of the year, 2021.

“Gratuity and other aspects of the Conditions of Service shall be captured in the 2022 Budget for further implementation.”
