Lagos insists on proper documentation for housing transactions Share this post

The Lagos State Government has advised the public that henceforth, all applications relating to transfer of home ownership are to be accompanied with evidence of home ownership, Search Conduct Result and a valid means of identification in cases of loss of home ownership document.

The government said the move is in a bid to eradicate fraud in transfer of home ownership and protect the interest of allottees in case of loss of home ownership documents.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, said this on Monday during a strategic Management meeting in Alausa, Ikeja.

According to him, “an allottee who applies for transfer of ownership must accompany his/her application with letter of allocation, payment receipts and a valid means of identification to be submitted to the office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing.”

Toriola said the move was to ascertain the genuineness of claims of ownership by applicants for proper transfer which has become necessary in view of the increased incidents of false claims uncovered by the Ministry.

However, the Permanent Secretary disclosed that henceforth home owners applying for replacement of loss of documents must attach home owner(s) National Identification Card (NIN card), police report and loss of document in a national newspaper to the application for processing and confirmation of ownership.

He stated further that, all applications relating to housing transactions in the State were to be accompanied with evidence of valid tax clearance certificate of the applicant, including applicant serving in public or civil service for application of home unit, change of ownership or loss of home ownership document.

Toriola said that all housing construction and provision of infrastructure facilities in the State were funded by tax payer’s money, adding that beneficiaries of these projects must have evidence of personal income tax.

Toriola warned that the Ministry would not process any application that did not include the aforementioned documents.

He then enjoined the citizens to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the state government in prioritizing the completion of all ongoing housing projects in order to reduce the housing deficit in the state and the nation at large.
