Labour Party Disowns Ex-Treasurer, Oparah

The leadership of the Labour Party has disowned the former National Treasurer of the party, Ms Oluchi Oparah saying she’s not the current National women leader of the party.

The party started this on Thursday in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, noting that Ms Oparah was suspended in 2023 following her anti-party activities.

While describing her as an “impostor”, the statement included that Ms Oparah has never contested for the position as the suspension was still effective as at the time of releasing this statement.

The statement partly read, “It has come to the attention of the leadership of the Labour Party of the illegal activities of a former National Treasurer of the party, Ms Oluchi Oparah who is reported to have been parading herself as the National Women Leader of the party.

“Ms Oparah was in November 2023 suspended indefinitely as a member of the Labour Party for anti party activities. Her suspension is still subsisting. She was never the National Women Leader of the party and she has never contested to be one at any point in time.

According to the statement, Ms Oparah had been seen on several occasions, presenting herself to the public as the women leader of the party for fraudulent gains on behalf of the party.

The party however, maintained that the current party’s women leader remains Mrs Dudu Manuga who was constitutionally elected to oversee National Women affairs of the party.

“A person who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others especially for fraudulent gain is an impostor. Therefore, her recent actions using the office of the National Women Leader of the Labour Party to seek pecuniary patronage amounts to impersonation.

“Information available to us has it that Ms Oluchi has been seen at different fora fraudulently posing as the National Women Leader of the Labour Party with the aim of extorting these organisations. This development has immensely embarrassed the Labour Party, hence this disclaimer.

“For the records, the National Women Leader of the Labour Party is Mrs Dudu Manuga. She alone is constitutionally mandated to oversee the activities of millions of the Labour Party women in Nigeria and across the globe,” the statement read.

The party stated that further fraudulent activities should be reported to the Police and other relevant authorities for prosecution.

“We are by this disclaimer alerting organisations including the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), The Kukah Foundation, Non Governmental Organisations, political associations, National Assembly, and security agencies including the Police and State Security Service amongst others to be aware of her dubious activities.

“The party seizes this platform to warn anyone or organisation being approached by the impostor to contact the police immediately,” the statement warned.
