Gov. Bello reportedly orders sack of Kogi teachers who are not APC supporters

#image_title

The Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration in Kogi State has reportedly ordered chairmen of local governments in the state to compile a list of public school teachers who are not sympathetic to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The order came through his honourable commissioner for Education. Those on the list are to be forced to change course, failing which their names will be transmitted to the infamous “uncleared list”. The state government is said to be using the uncleared list to arm-twist a number of civil servants to do its bidding or be sacked.

The move which is deployed through the offices of the various education secretaries of the local governments it was gathered, is a ploy by the state government to compel its public servants to vote for the ruling party ahead of the February and March elections.

Already, in compliance with the order, the chairmen of Okene, Adavi, Kabba, Dekina and Olamaboro Local Governments of the state have notified teachers in public schools in their domains of the development.

Two teachers who spoke to our correspondent lamented: “It’s true, we have been told to either support the APC and work for the party or we should be prepared to leave service. Most of us have decided to take our destinies in our own hands because even if you support them, the situation will not change after the elections.”
