FAAN Shuts Abuja Runway As Plane Losses Gear

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Thursday shut down the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after an aircraft lost its landing gear while touching down at the facility.

It was learnt that the private jet, operated by Nest Oil, skidded off the runway as soon as it touched down on the runway, a development which according to sources as well as passengers at the airport, led to a shutdown of the runway for hours.

FAAN, however, in a statement issued by its General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, stated that the runway was closed for 30 minutes.

She said, “FAAN wishes to notify passengers and airport users that the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, would be closed for the next 30 minutes.

“This is to enable the authority take safety precautions, as a private jet being operated by Nest Oil has just skidded off the Abuja runway. The aircraft lost its landing gear in the process but all hands are on deck to put the situation under control and normalcy would be restored within the hour.”
