Edo 2020: Edo APC disagrees with NWC, adopts indirect primary

APC reacts to Oshiomhole's suspension as chairman

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the indirect mode of primaries in the forth coming Gubernatorial election in Edo State.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had in the early hours of Friday said it has adopted direct primary option, where all registered party members will elect for the governorship flagbearer.

But the Edo APC Chairman, Anselm Ojesua,  on Friday at a meeting with stakeholders held at the party secretariat in Benin City, said the Coronavirus pandemic is one of the reasons for the decision, adding that having 300,000 individuals risking their lives in this period for the sake of conducting primaries is unethical.

The party chairman also mentioned that the newly rebuilt Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium would be used as the venue to host the statutory delegates.

He also noted that the state party lacks a credible register of members, hence making the direct primaries method unworkable.

The Edo State indirect primaries will host about 3,500 delegates next month, according to the state chairman of the party.
