The military chiefs of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), at a meeting in Ghana, coordinated a plan for a possible military operation in Niger, Abdel-Fatau Musah, the West African bloc’s commissioner for political affairs, peace and security, said.
“We have already discussed and coordinated all potential actions necessary to launch an intervention in Niger”, he said.

The two-day meeting followed a resolution of West African leaders from its Summit in Abuja. ECOWAS leaders had in a summit held in Abuja, directed the military chiefs to be on a standby action to reinstate Niger’s ousted President, Mohamed Bazoum.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Musah said ECOWAS intended to restore constitutional order in Niger, but emphasised that the regional bloc is still seeking to engage peacefully with Niger’s military leaders.
“We are ready to go any time the order is given. The D-day is also decided. We’ve already agreed and fine-tuned what will be required for the intervention
“As we speak, we are still readying a mediation mission into the country, so we have not shut any door.
“Let no one be in doubt that if everything else fails, the valiant forces of West Africa, both the military and the civilian components, are ready to answer to the call of duty”, he added.
