Army Defuses 4 Explosives ‘Planted By IPOB’ In Imo State

Troops conducting ‘Exercise Golden Dawn, Sector 3,’ have reportedly uncovered four improvised explosive devices allegedly planted by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) along the Owerri-Orlu road in Imo State.

A statement by army spokesman, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the troops also thwarted an attempt by members of the separatist t group to unleash mayhem on residents of Mgbidi and Awo Mmamma communities in Oru East Local Government Area of the state.

Nwachukwu claimed that the group targeted the people for refusing to observe its sit-at-home order declared in the state.

“The vigilant troops, who were on a reinforcement mission to Mgbidi/Awo Mmama detected the IEDs planted at about 15 meters apart on both sides of the road and safely defused them. No casualty was recorded during the defusion,” he said.

According to the army spokesperson, four wraps of unexploded ordnances, one motor cycle battery, two vehicle alarm devices, one detonator, wires and batteries were recovered and defused.

He said the road has been safely cleared and motorists have resumed plying the road.

While urging citizens to go about their normal businesses and disregard IPOB’s sit-at-home order, the army spokesman appealed to the residents of Mgbidi, Awo Mmama and Omuma communities to report any suspected movement of members of the group to relevant security agencies.
