Beyond Banking: A Corporate Drive to Empower the Next Generation

In a remarkable gesture of compassion and social responsibility, OPay Digital Services Limited, in partnership with the Dolly Children Foundation (DCF), recently made a significant impact on education in Lagos State by donating essential learning materials to three public primary schools. This thoughtful initiative comes at a time when many families face financial hardships, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to uplift underserved communities.

Over 850 pupils from Jubril Martins Memorial Primary School, Agege, Issa Williams Primary School, and Anwar-ul Islam Primary School, Agege benefitted from the donation of school bags, exercise books, and other learning essentials under DCF’s “Back to School Project.” This program, which underscores the value of quality education, aims to equip children with the tools they need to excel academically and build a brighter future.

Speaking on the initiative, Itoro Udo, Corporate Social Responsibility Project Manager at OPay, highlighted the company’s commitment to meaningful change. “We are not just any digital bank; we are OPay, a bank that thinks CSR. It’s more than financial services; it’s about giving back to the communities we serve. Partnering with an organization like DCF allows us to address real needs, taking some burdens off parents so they can focus on other priorities.”

The Dolly Children Foundation’s founder, Adedolapo Osuntuyi, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to giving underprivileged kids access to high-quality education. “The only way to stop the cycle of poverty is through education. Students stay in school and maintain their attention because of this support. Our objective is to assist these kids in laying a strong foundation for the future.

Mr. Kehinde Bukola James, Head of Human Resources Management and Administration, who spoke on behalf of Education Secretary Mrs. Catherine Ogunyomi, also supported the event. He praised the consideration shown by both groups. A large number of students in these institutions actually require this assistance. Although our intervention has had a major impact, we encourage other stakeholders to get involved in tackling the other issues these schools are facing.

The partnership between OPay and DCF stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating how collaboration can bridge the gap for children with limited opportunities. This initiative not only strengthens community ties but also reinforces the importance of education as a fundamental right, even in the face of economic difficulties.
