Buhari departs Abuja
President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to leave Abuja for Accra, Ghana on Tuesday, April 25 to attend the 3rd Extraordinary Session of the Gulf of Guinea Commission’s Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
His spokesman, Femi Adesina, confirmed the travel itinerary in a statement issued on Monday.
Buhari is expected to participate in and deliver remarks at a high-level discussion on strategies for strengthening peace and security in the fight against maritime-related crimes in the region.
The statement read in part, “In June 2019, Nigeria’s National Assembly passed the Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences Act, 2019, (POMO Act) which aims to prevent and suppress piracy, armed robbery and other unlawful acts against a ship.
“The President will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj.-Gen Babagana Monguno (Rtd), the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, among other government officials.
