Amnesty International Condemns Female Lawyer’s Killing By Trigger-Happy Policeman In Lagos

Human rights organisation, Amnesty International Nigeria, has condemned the killing of Mrs Omobolanle Raheem, a lawyer who was shot and killed by a policeman attached to Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos State.

Raheem was shot on Christmas Day (Sunday).

The shooting was said to have occurred around the Jubilee bridge at Ajah, Lagos state, when the deceased and her family were returning from Christmas service.

The trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was identified as Ayuba Yandi.

In a statement on its Twitter page on Monday, Amnesty International said it was horrifying that police officers who were meant to protect lives take it with impunity.

The statement read, “Amnesty International strongly condemns the killing of Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem by a police officer on Christmas day at Ajiwe Ajah #Lagos. It is horrifying that police officers who are meant to protect lives take it with impunity. #EndSARS #Nigeria.

“The Nigeria Police Force’s announcement of investigation into this tragic incident must lead to justice, and the erring police officers must face prosecution in independent, impartial, public trials.

“Reckless resort of the police to deadly force is a human rights violation. Police brutality must end. #EndSARS #Police #PoliceBrutality #Nigeria.”
