Court dismisses suit seeking to disqualify Rivers PDP guber candidate

Fubara, the anointed candidate of Nyesom Wike, the incumbent governor of the state, had resigned as Rivers state account-general to enable him pursue his governorship bid.

On May 25, he polled 721 votes to defeat Isaac Kamalu, a former commissioner for finance in the state, who scored 86 at the primary election of the party in Port Harcourt.

Felix Obua, another aspirant, got two votes, while David Brigs secured four votes, and West Morgan had four. Tammy Danagogo polled 36 and George Kelly had 37 votes.

Unhappy with the outcome, West had challenged Fubara’s candidacy, alleging he was not a member of the party and did not have a valid PDP membership card, among other issues.

Delivering judgment on Friday, Adamu Mohammed, the presiding judge, dismissed the suit.

The judge held that the suit is incompetent and that the court lacks the jurisdiction to hear it.
