BREAKING: Only 1.39m Nigerians eligible to vote in 2023 – INEC

INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this on Wednesday in Abuja at a media conference.

According to him, 45 percent of total registered voters in the country are invalid.

He said only 1,390,519 Nigerians have valid permanent voters card (PVCs) across the country

“This is a challenging development,” Yakubu said.

He said, “We are all concerned about the security challenges. But the environment must be secured for INEC to conduct the election. We are liaising with the security agencies to secure the environment for us to Conduct the 2023 elections.”

He also said that only 10 of the 18 registered political parties have notified the commission of their primaries.

He urged the remaining parties to do the needful and for all the parties to strictly follow the electoral laws and other guidelines.

According to recent population checks, there are 105,841,979 people over age 18 in Nigeria.
