Adama Barrow re-election as President of The Gambia

Adama Barrow has been re-elected as President of The Gambia.

It was reported that Adama Barrow has been declared winner of the Presidential election held in The Gambia on Saturday.

He has now won a re-election for a second term.

On Saturday, the president received 53% of the vote, while his nearest rival, Ousainou Darboe, received 28% of the vote.
Barrow supporters and members of the National People’s Party (NPP) erupted in jubilation at McCarthy Square when the results were revealed.

“The National People’s Party, partner parties, and Independents wish to inform all members and supporters of our grand alliance that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Secretary General, and Party Leader of the NPP Mr Adama Barrow will deliver a victory speech today Sunday 5th December, at McCarthy Square in Banjul,” said NPP Deputy Spokesman Seedy Njie in a statement.

“All supporters and members of our grand alliance are encouraged to attend the meeting in Banjul. All Gambians have placed their trust and confidence in President Adama Barrow and his team.”

Three opposition candidates, on the other hand, have rejected the partial results, citing an unusually long time to count the votes.

Ousainou Darboe, Mama Kandeh, and Essa Mbye Faal are their names.

The election on Saturday was the first in 27 years to be held without disgraced former President Yahya Jammeh, who now lives in exile in Equatorial Guinea after refusing to acknowledge loss to Barrow in 2016.

Jammeh had sought to persuade followers to vote for an opposition coalition in telephoned remarks that were delivered to campaign rallies during his 22-year dictatorship, which was marked by the execution and torture of political opponents.
