PDP Must Present Popular Candidate To Win In Ekiti, Osun- Oni

An aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2022 Ekiti State governorship election, Mr Segun Oni, has urged the PDP to learn from happenings in Anambra State by ensuring that it fields popular candidates for the 2022 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States to stand any chance of winning.

Oni, a one-time governor of Ekiti State, spoke through the Director General of his campaign organisation, Yemi Arokodare.

In a statement titled, “Gambling is not an option in Ekiti and Osun,” Arokodare said, “Ahead of the Ekiti and Osun states governorship elections in 2022, our great party, the PDP, must be decisive, deliberate and direct in picking popular candidates with track records and name recognition to have the chances of winning”.

He added that, “From the outcome of the Anambra governorship election and the pattern of voting, it is evident to everyone that Governor Willie Obiano, and All Progressives Grand Alliance, who had dipped in popularity in the last two years, deliberately went for a popular candidate in Chukwuma Soludo, to keep hope alive.

Arokodare said, “It is clear to the blind and loud to the deaf that the only candidate with proven track records, outstanding name and a movement-like structure who all stakeholders can work with to win the June 18, 2022 governorship race in Ekiti State is Segun Oni.

“Segun Oni is a personality with a multi-partisan and non-partisan support-base in Ekiti and he is the people’s delight any day any time and, they are eagerly awaiting his emergence as the PDP candidate.

“After a successful convention and the prospects of displacing a fumbling ruling party at the centre in the 2023 elections, the PDP cannot afford to gamble over the choice of its governorship candidates in Ekiti and Osun states.

“The choice of Soludo has paid off because the people could easily connect with his visible track records and popularity in the state, country and beyond, and Anambrarians decided to give him a chance.

“Our party must apply the sense of purpose and wisdom that guided it in electing the incoming NWC; it must learn from APGA in Anambra, and it must be decisive in bringing all stakeholders together in Ekiti and Osun to take a firm decision,” he said.
