Hisbah bans radio station from saying ‘Black Friday’ in Kano

The Hisbah corps in Kano has banned Cool FM from mentioning Black Friday in their programmes, saying Friday is holy in the state.

Black Friday is the day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving, regarded as the first day of the Christmas shopping season, on which retailers make many special offers.

But in a letter signed by Abubakar Ali on behalf of the Commander General and addressed to the manager of the station, the board requested the media house to stop the act with immediate effect.

“I am directed to write and notify you that the office in in receipt of complaint for the conduct of Black Friday Sales on 27th November, 2020.

“Accordingly, we wish to express our concern on the tagging of the Friday as “Black Friday” and further inform you that the majority of the inhabitants of Kano state are Muslims that consider Friday as Holy Day.

“In view if the foregoing you are requested to stop calling the day as Black Friday with immediate effect and note that Hisbah corps will be around for surveillance purposes with a view to avoiding occurence of any immoral activities as well as maintaining peace, harmony and stability in the state.”
