Stray bullet kills 4-month-old baby 3 weeks after dedication

IGP orders investigation into viral video of officer dehumanising lady

A stray bullet from the gun of a suspected cultist has killed a four-month-old baby while in the warm arms of his mother in Awka, capital of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the mother of the baby, identified as Mrs. Okoro, boarded a tricycle (Keke Napep) from Eke Awka market and was heading to Amaenyi when the stray bullet suddenly hit her baby, leaving him instantly dead and the mother injured.

According to a source from the family, “The baby was dedicated in the church on 12th of July; three weeks later he was killed. What a painful experience!”

“The woman was returning from Eke Awka market and boarded Keke coming to Amenyi because she lives at Nkwelle Awka.

“Along the line, a stray bullet from the gun of a suspected cultist hit them inside the Keke and killed the baby instantly and injured the mother too,” the source further said.

While describing the incident as painful, the source said the deceased was the second child of his parents.

A police officer at the Central Police Station confirmed the incident, saying that investigations were ongoing.
