PDP: Iduoriyekemwen wins Edo Governorship Primary conducted by Sheriff faction

A former member of the Edo ‎State House of Assembly, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, has won the Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial primary conducted by the Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff faction of the party at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin on Wednesday evening.

Iduoriyekemwen, who also represented Edo in the Niger Delta Development Commission, was declared winner by the chairman of the electoral committee and a former political advisor to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Ahmed Gulak, with a total of 481 valid votes.

The other aspirant, Hon. Johnson Agbonayima, a member of the House of Representatives representing Egor and Ikpoba-Okha federal constituency voluntarily withdrew from the race and backed the winner before voting started.

Gulak said a total of 677 accredited delegates participated in the election, while 502 votes were cast with 21 invalid votes recorded.

We can however report that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not monitor the exercise as allowed by law.

The governorship election has been scheduled for September 10.
